Golden Gate Park, located in San Francisco, California, United States, is a large urban park consisting of 1,017 acres (412 ha) of public grounds. It is administered by the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department, which began in 1871 to oversee the development of Golden Gate Park. Configured as a rectangle, it is similar in shape to but 20 percent larger than Central Park in New York City, to which it is often compared. It is over three miles (4.8 km) long east to west, and about half a mile (0.8 km) north to south. With 24 million visitors annually, Golden Gate is the third most-visited city park in the United States after Central Park and the Lincoln Memorial.

Der Golden Gate Park in San Francisco ist einer der größten innerstädtischen Parks der Welt. Mit seinen 4,1 Quadratkilometern (fünf Kilometer lang und 800 Meter breit) ist er größer als der Central Park in New York. Der sich vom Pazifik nach Osten erstreckende Park liegt im Westen der Stadt inmitten ausgedehnter Wohngebiete, rund sechs Kilometer vom Zentrum entfernt.

Der rechteckige Stadtpark wurde von William Hammond Hall in den 1860er-Jahren geplant und in den 1870ern auf Land gebaut, das man für unbewohnbar hielt. Durch aufwändige landschaftsgestalterische Einbauten wie künstliche Wasserläufe, einen Wasserfall und Seen, deren größter der Stow-See ist, wurde eine naturnahe Szenerie modelliert. Für die Versorgung der Gewässer wurde 1902 eigens eine Windmühle im niederländischen Stil gebaut.

Im Park sind mehrere Sehenswürdigkeiten der Stadt beheimatet, so zum Beispiel das M. H. de Young Memorial Museum oder das Conservatory of Flowers, ein im viktorianischen Stil erbautes Gewächshaus. Als weitere Attraktionen beherbergt der Park den japanischen Teegarten, den San Francisco Botanical Garden, sowie die California Academy of Sciences. Makoto Hagiwara, ein japanischer Gärtner, der von 1895 bis 1925 offizieller Verwalter des Teegartens war, wird gelegentlich als Erfinder der weltbekannten Glückskekse genannt.

Im Park gibt es eine Kopie der Golden Gate Bridge. Das berühmte Wahrzeichen San Franciscos befindet sich allerdings mehrere Kilometer nördlich des Golden Gate Parks.

French Parc du Golden Gate

Le parc du Golden Gate (en anglais : Golden Gate Park ou GGP) est un espace vert américain d'une superficie de 412 hectares (4,5 km2, environ 5 km sur 800 mètres), situé à San Francisco, en Californie.

Il est le plus grand parc de la ville et sa superficie dépasse celle du Central Park de New York. Il est administré par le San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department et se classe au rang de troisième parc public le plus visité des États-Unis.

Le projet date des années 1860, les San-Franciscains voulant pour leur ville un jardin public qui pourrait rivaliser avec celui de New York. Le projet est achevé dans les années 1870, après que les autorités aient choisi un emplacement inhabité et sablonneux. Le plan du parc est réalisé par Frederick Law Olmsted et son assistant John McLaren, qui vit dans le parc jusqu'à sa mort en 1943.

M. H. de Young Memorial Museum

The M. H. de Young Memorial Museum, commonly referred as the de Young, is a fine arts museum located in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, and one of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco along with the Legion of Honor. The de Young is named for early San Francisco newspaperman M. H. de Young. Since Nov 1, 2018, Thomas P. Campbell serves as the Director and CEO of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, overseeing the de Young and Legion of Honor museums.

California Academy of Sciences

The California Academy of Sciences is a research institute and natural history museum in San Francisco, California, that is among the largest museums of natural history in the world, housing over 46 million specimens. The Academy began in 1853 as a learned society and still carries out a large amount of original research. It is California's oldest museum.

Completely rebuilt in 2008, the building covers 400,000 square feet (37,000 square metres).

The primary building in Golden Gate Park reopened on September 27, 2008.

San Francisco Botanical Garden

The San Francisco Botanical Garden at Strybing Arboretum (formerly Strybing Arboretum) is located in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. Its 55 acres (22.3 ha) represents nearly 9,000 different kinds of plants from around the world, with particular focus on Magnolia species, high elevation palms, conifers, and cloud forest species from Central America, South America and Southeast Asia.San Francisco's County Fair Building is located near the main entrance to the Garden.

Japanese Tea Garden

The Japanese Tea Garden (Japanese: ジャパニーズ・ティー・ガーデン) in San Francisco, California, is a popular feature of Golden Gate Park, originally built as part of a sprawling World's Fair, the California Midwinter International Exposition of 1894. Though many of its attractions are still a part of the garden today, there have been changes throughout the history of the garden that have shaped it into what it is today.

The oldest public Japanese garden in the United States, this complex of many paths, ponds and a teahouse features plants and trees pruned and arranged in a Japanese style. The garden's 3 acres contain sculptures and structures influenced by Buddhist and Shinto religious beliefs, as well as many elements of water and rocks to create a calming landscape designed to slow people down.

Spreckels Lake

The Spreckels Lake Model Yacht Facility, commonly referred to as "Spreckels Lake", is an artificial reservoir behind an earthen dam and adjoining clubhouse situated on the northern side of San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. Completed in mid-March 1904, the reservoir was built for the use of model boaters of all ages, interests, and skill levels, designed specifically for racing model sail and power boats and to propagate the skills and crafts necessary to build and sail competitive model boats of all types. The Spreckels Lake Model Yacht Facility is considered one of the finest examples and one of the most beautiful of the naturalistically styled, man-made model boating facilities in the world and is always open to anyone wishing to sail its waters with few restrictions. The facility is also the permanent home to the San Francisco Model Yacht Club (SFMYC), the organization at whose request Spreckels Lake and the adjoining clubhouses were built and whose history is and always will be irrevocably intertwined with the history of the facility.

Conservatory of Flowers

The Conservatory of Flowers is a greenhouse and botanical garden that houses a collection of rare and exotic plants in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, California. With construction having been completed in 1879, it is the oldest building in the park. It was one of the first municipal conservatories constructed in the United States and is the oldest remaining municipal wooden conservatory in the country. For these distinctions and for its associated historical, architectural, and engineering merits, the Conservatory of Flowers is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the California Register of Historical Places. It is a California Historical Landmark and a San Francisco Designated Landmark.
